Motor Learning and Transfer Are Symmetric Across Hands
I. Nyamsuren, A. Statham, E. Mitchell, B. Kohler, P. Lam, R. L. Klatzky, and J. S. Tsay — bioRxiv preprint, July 2026
Across a meta-analysis of 114 datasets and preregistered experiments with 526 participants, we find that sensorimotor adaptation and interlimb transfer are strikingly symmetric across hands. The results suggest a fundamental dissociation: motor control is lateralized to the dominant hemisphere, while motor learning is supported by a symmetric neural architecture.
